An emerald-cut diamond of 100.2 carats
Categories : News
A new record for Sotheby's, which featured the stunning 100.20 carats emerald cut diamond sold in New York on April 21, 2015 for $ 22.1 million. Once again the prices have gone up because this stone is not only extremely rare for its weight but its clarity and its color are perfect (certified of color D, of clarity ). In addition, its emerald cut, quite rare for a stone of this size amplifies its transparency and enhances its clarity.
It took more than a year to trim it optimally and this was done in the utmost discretion in the famous De Beers mines in South Africa.
The director of Sotheby's jewelery department in New York is full of praise for this gem, which in the coming weeks will travel between London, Doha, Dubai and Hong Kong under a good escort, as one might imagine, to be present to rich customers who might be seduced.
The last white diamond sold by Sotheby's in 2013 was 101 carats and had been sold for $ 26.7 million.
But today it's not the white diamonds that are worth the most. The record amounts to a 59.60 carat rose diamond auctioned in November 2013 at Sotheby's in Geneva for nearly $ 83.2 million.
